Your city hall is getting stuff done (quietly)
Alright, Calgary, let's talk about what's actually moving through City Hall, 'cause sometimes it feels like those doors on Macleod Trail just spin, you know? But for real though, the latest Civic Intelligence Monitor data, pulled today at 11:44 AM, shows some real activity on the development front. This week alone, 17 new commercial and construction permits have been issued across the city. That's not a dry well, folks — that's actual shovels in the ground eventually.
Now, council's been having some pretty tight-lipped discussions too. On March 10th, several motions were passed during a Strategic Meeting of Council, but a couple of 'em involved directing "Confidential Attachment 2" to be held confidential. Councillor Landon Johnston even voted 'No' on two of those motions, including one to keep discussions confidential "pursuant to Section 29 (Advice from officials) of the Access to Information Act." It makes you wonder what kind of oil patch secrets they're trying to cap, doesn't it? We'll be keeping an eye on when those details finally surface. This is Calgary — we've seen the boom, we've seen the bust, and we showed up anyway.
