Your neighbors still calling 311 for everything.
Okay so, Chi-Town on the wire — you already know. Let's talk about what's really happening in our city, right? Because while everyone's complaining about the Bears, real stuff is getting done... or not.
First off, people are calling 311 like crazy. Nah nah nah, let me explain: the top request, by a landslide, is "311 INFORMATION ONLY CALL" with *13,915 requests*. Like, that's not even a service request, that's just people trying to figure out how to navigate the system, you know? After that, it’s aircraft noise complaints, which, living near Midway or O'Hare, I get it, with *6,467 requests*. Potholes are still a huge deal too, *2,159 complaints*. This is all according to the latest 311 service request data. It tells you what people are actually dealing with in their neighborhoods, from Belmont to Englewood.
And then on the other side, development is still chugging along, but it's mostly small stuff. We got express permits for like, plumbing repairs for $7,000 and tuckpointing for $12,000 on March 18th, 2026. Seems like the big projects aren't getting the express lane treatment. What we should be watching is if these small repairs actually lead to bigger investments, especially in the neighborhoods that need it most, instead of just downtown.
