Chicagoans are calling about planes, not potholes. Qué pasó?

Okay so, you know how everyone complains about like, the potholes and the graffiti in this city? We’ve all done it, right? But what are people *really* calling 311 for? Nah nah nah, let me explain, it’s not what you think.

According to the latest 311 service request data, the number one thing people call for, by a mile, is "311 INFORMATION ONLY CALL" with *13,491 requests*. Like, people are just calling to ask questions about other stuff, not to report a problem. But after that? The second highest complaint, with almost 7,000 calls—6,789 requests to be exact—is for “Aircraft Noise Complaint.” Not potholes, which are almost 2,000, or graffiti. It’s the planes! Like, are we just now noticing how loud the planes are over our heads, especially on the Northwest Side? ¿Qué pasó?

It makes you wonder, you know, about the priorities. We’re calling about the noise from the sky more than we’re calling about the streets we actually drive on every day. Chi-Town on the wire — you already know.

This is Luz Elena Camacho, and I’m watching to see if anyone at City Hall actually takes a look at these numbers and connects the dots.

My tías and primas talk about this all the time on the morning show, you should listen live at mornings.live.
