Your City Hall was all about the sky this week
Good morning from the coulees — the wind's up, the sky's wide, and Lethbridge has something to say.
Look, this past week, the main conversation down at City Hall wasn't about budgets or bylaws, but about blizzards and the wild weather moving across the prairie. The city's open data portal has been quieter than a winter morning, but the wind has been speaking loud enough.
* Environment Canada kept us on alert for a significant weather event, with warnings shifting and changing like the clouds over *Sik-ooh-kotok* (the Blackfoot name for the coulees).
* By the end of the week, those warnings sharpened, predicting heavy snow and gusts that would make even a chinook wind blush.
* City crews were on standby, prepping for the kind of snow that can really snarl up traffic, especially on those morning commutes down Whoop-Up Drive.
The focus, really, has been on keeping our roads clear and our folks safe from what the sky decided to throw at us. It's a reminder that sometimes, the biggest decisions aren't made in a council chamber, but in anticipation of Mother Nature's next move.
