They're building a mansion in Ward 1!
Okay, *bonjour* Ottawa! You know, sometimes you look at the city’s official records and you just have to raise an eyebrow. This week, we saw some big money permits getting approved, but nothing quite like the one for 56 Inglewood Drive in Ward 1. We're talking about a permit for a *single-storey detached dwelling* — that’s a house, for us regular folks — valued at a cool $1,910,124. This isn't just a renovation; it's a brand-new build. For context, we also had a commercial permit for Co-Operators Insurance on Standish Court for interior alterations and a structural beam on the 7th and 8th floors, valued at $1,916,140. So, someone’s house in Ward 1 is almost as expensive as a major commercial office overhaul.
It just goes to show you where some of the serious investment is happening in this city. While most of us are happy with a new shed, some people are building structures that could practically be small office towers. The real story is never on the Hill — it’s always just off it. We'll be watching to see what kind of "single-storey dwelling" nearly two million dollars actually buys these days.
