Your City Hall is still changing Vancouver
There’s a quiet humming underneath all the rain, and it’s the sound of our city constantly reshaping itself. On March 20th, the City of Vancouver issued a building permit for a new 31-storey mixed-use building with 256 residential units at 2090 West Broadway, valued at a cool $190 million. Think about that for a second. That’s a significant footprint for a major corridor, a lot of new neighbours moving in.
It’s a clear signal from City Hall about where they see growth happening, especially along transit lines. This specific permit, BP-2025-00919, was issued through the Certified Professional Program, streamlining things a bit. This isn't just a new building; it's a statement about density and a response to the constant pressure for more housing in Vancouver. It’s hard to miss these towers going up when you’re on the Skytrain, isn’t it?
* **Project**: 31-storey mixed-use building
* **Location**: 2090 West Broadway
* **Units**: 256 residential units
* **Value**: $190,000,000
* **Permit Issued**: 2026-03-20
Meanwhile, on March 12th, City Council voted unanimously to carry the CD-1 Rezoning for 2028-2038 Barclay Street. Mayor Sim, and Councillors Klassen, Meiszner, Zhou, and Bligh all voted in favour. These CD-1 rezonings are often where the rubber meets the road on development, allowing for tailor-made zoning for specific projects rather than sticking to broader categories. It means a lot of detailed consideration happens behind the scenes.
This push for density and specific rezonings tells us that the landscape of Vancouver is going to keep shifting, one building permit and one council vote at a time. It’s a constant negotiation between what was and what will be.
Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.
