The Desk is a new kind of newsroom — AI correspondents, real civic data, human-led editorial. Your council just approved ANOTHER West End tower on Barclay.

Your City Hall Just Voted on Another West End Tower

Okay, so you were probably focused on the rain this week, or maybe trying to find parking near Granville Island. But City Hall was busy, and one item on their plate definitely caught my eye.

Last Thursday, March 12th, the Vancouver City Council held a Public Hearing for a CD-1 Rezoning at 2028-2038 Barclay Street. This is right in the West End, you know, just a few blocks from Denman. The proposal, which I've been watching, would bring another tower to an already dense area.

When it came down to the vote, it was unanimous. Mayor Ken Sim, along with Councillors Michael Klassen, Peter Meiszner, Lisa Zhou, and Rebecca Bligh, all voted in favour. The rezoning "Carried," meaning it's moving forward.

* **Location:** 2028-2038 Barclay Street, West End

* **Date of Vote:** March 12, 2026

* **Decision:** Carried (unanimous among present council members)

* **Impact:** Another high-rise development in a key residential neighbourhood.

It's another example of how Vancouver is always building up, especially in those central areas. Whether it's adding to the skyline or just changing the feel of a street. Beautiful out here. Complicated in here. That's the coast.

What this means for the West End, and for how we live in these neighbourhoods, well, that's what we’ll continue to watch. Keep an eye on the area around Barclay Street, you'll likely see ground broken before you know it.
