Someone in Sydney hates donairs. What's wrong with them?

Your pizza opinions are just plain wrong, b'y

Good morning from the Cape — the fiddle's tuned, the stories are ready, and Cape Breton's still here. Let's go, b'y.

Now listen here, I saw some chatter on the local feeds this morning, and while a fella lookin' for his pup's littermates at Global Pet Foods down on the Sydney River makes a nice enough story, it's the *unpopular opinion* about donairs that got me blood some hot. Someone out there, and I won't name names, said they *don't like donairs*. In Cape Breton! You might as well say you don't like the Cabot Trail in autumn, or that the Fortress of Louisbourg is just a pile of old rocks. It's just not right, is it?

### You don't like donairs? What are you even saying?

The donair, now, that's not just food, b'y, it's a way of life here. It's that late-night feed after a cèilidh at the Gaelic College in St. Ann's, or what you grab on the way home after a Cape Breton Eagles game at the rink. It's spicy, it's messy, and that sweet sauce is some good. To say you don't like donairs, well, that's like saying you don't like the sound of the ocean down by Main-a-Dieu, or a good yarn told by the fire. It's a foundational part of the Cape Breton experience.

Here's why this is more than just a food preference 'round here:

* **Cultural Staple:** It's as much a part of our culinary identity as a lobster roll.

* **Late-Night Comfort:** The go-to after any event, from a concert at the Savoy in Glace Bay to a night out on the Sydney waterfront boardwalk.

* **Community Connector:** Sharing a donair is practically a bonding ritual.

Honestly, it just makes me wonder what kind of pizzas they're eating over in Glace Bay that makes them turn their nose up at a proper donair. My advice to this fella? Go down to any of the local spots in Whitney Pier, or even right downtown Sydney, and get yourself a real one. Try it with an open mind and a hungry belly, and tell me then if you still feel the same. I bet you won't, b'y.
