Your Goose commute is closing for a whole kilometer on June 1st

Your morning commute on the Goose might get a bit bumpy

Good morning from the island — we're still here, the orcas were spotted at Active Pass, and honestly, life is fine. Well, here's the thing. We all love our Galloping Goose Trail, don't we? It’s where half of Victoria seems to glide by on bikes, walking dogs, or just enjoying the quiet. But prepare yourself for a bit of a shift in your routine if you rely on it, because BC Hydro is closing a full kilometre of the trail starting June 1st.

This isn't just a small patch; it's a significant stretch that will require a detour. We’re talking about a closure for essential BC Hydro work, which, you know, keeps the lights on and our kettles boiling. It’s always a bit of a dance here between keeping our infrastructure humming and preserving the pathways we cherish. For those of us who use the Goose to get from, say, our tranquil spots near Swan Lake all the way into the hustle of downtown, or even just for a leisurely afternoon pedal out to Sooke, this will certainly alter the flow.

### What This Means for Victoria

* **Commuter Impact:** If you bike to work, particularly from communities like Saanich or Langford towards the Inner Harbour, you'll need to plan an alternative route. Expect a bit more traffic on parallel roads like Burnside or Wilkinson for a while.

* **Recreational Disruption:** Weekend strolls and long runs might be rerouted. It’s a good opportunity to explore some of the other lovely trails we have, like the Lochside Trail, or even wander through Beacon Hill Park for a different kind of green escape.

* **Island Time Test:** This is where our famous "island time" attitude really gets put to the test. Will we grumble, or will we simply adjust our pace and find a new favourite detour? My bet is on the latter, perhaps with a touch of good-natured complaining over a high tea in Oak Bay.

Ultimately, it’s a temporary inconvenience for a necessary upgrade. Life goes on, the deer will still be grazing fearlessly in your yard, and the float planes will continue their gentle landings in the Inner Harbour. It’s a reminder that even our most serene pathways are part of a larger, evolving city.
