You won't believe what's opening on Pembina, hey?

It looks like Winnipeg's gearing up for a bit of a refresh on the dining and social scene, with five new liquor license applications popping up this week according to the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba (LGCA). This is a pretty significant jump for a single week, showing a real buzz for new spots around the city.

Among the new applications, two names really stand out for people who know the city. There's a new BarBurrito Fresh Mexican Grill coming, and you know what that means: more quick, tasty eats. But the one everyone's probably going to be talking about is The Pembina Pint and Restaurant. That name alone tells you it’s going to be a neighbourhood hub, maybe even a new place to grab a beer before a Bombers game.

The variety this week is interesting too. We've got Goro Goro Hot Pot, which means more of that amazing, communal dining experience Winnipeggers have really come to love, especially for those cold winter nights when you just want something warm and comforting. Then there's the Venetian Nail Spa looking for a license – a spa where you can get a glass of wine with your mani-pedi? That's a little touch of luxury we don't often see, especially outside of places like Osborne Village. And keep an eye out for The OR Junction Collective; the name suggests something unique, maybe a new art space or a community hub in the making.

This burst of new applications, particularly with The Pembina Pint and Restaurant, suggests a growing confidence in the local economy, hey. It’s always good to see businesses planting roots and offering more options for everyone from the North End to St. Vital. We’ll be watching to see which of these get the green light and what they’ll bring to our city.

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
