Your street is flooding and the city knows it, hey.

It's barely April, and we're already seeing those classic signs of spring in Winnipeg: melting snow, muddy boulevards, and a fresh round of calls to 311 about blocked catch basins. In the last 24 hours, the top complaint to the City of Winnipeg was "Frozen Catch Basin P2_vof," with two separate calls coming in. This particular type of request, which refers to a specific kind of catch basin issue, tied with "Parking Ticket Payment" for the most frequent service request out of 11 total 311 calls made.

This isn't just about a little puddle on your street, hey. A frozen or blocked catch basin means the meltwater has nowhere to go. We're talking about potential street flooding, icy patches overnight, and general spring mess that can make navigating our neighbourhoods a real challenge. You know how it goes, one minute it's just a big puddle by the curb, the next you're dodging an inland sea trying to cross the street near The Forks.

While only two calls might seem small, in a 24-hour period with only 11 total 311 requests, it really highlights where the immediate concerns are for folks across Winnipeg. Other recent calls included one for "Snow Plow caused Damage Report," one for "Pothole P1_vof," and one for "Roll Out Cart Repair/Replacement - Garbage_2025." Keeping an eye on those catch basins as the snow continues to melt is going to be key as we head deeper into spring.

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
