Is Winnipeg raising gamers or creators, hey?

Your kids are playing *Fortnite* and you're paying for it, hey?

Okay, so the kids — and, let's be honest, a lot of us grown-ups too — are buzzing about *Fortnite* Chapter 7 coming out. It’s got Dwayne Johnson and Bugs Bunny in it, all that jazz. But here in Winnipeg, when something this big drops, it makes you think about a different kind of creative output, hey? Our kids, the ones who are glued to these screens, they’re also the ones walking past incredible murals in the North End, or maybe taking art classes in the Exchange District. It makes you wonder if we’re doing enough to show them that same level of innovation, that same kind of imaginative world-building, exists right here in our own backyard.

Because we’ve got world-class talent, you know? The Winnipeg Fringe Festival, the artists at The Forks, the dancers who train year-round for things like Festival du Voyageur. We’re a city that thrives on making things from scratch, on telling stories with a spirit that’s all our own. So yeah, *Fortnite* is cool, but what about the next generation of storytellers and game-changers we’re raising right here? Are we giving them the tools and the inspiration to build their own worlds, or just to play in someone else’s? It’s something to think about, hey.

Winterpeg. We built a city in the coldest place anyone has any business building a city — and it is genuinely wonderful. Good morning.
