Baltimore, your tax refund ain't safe!
Listen—everybody’s talking about how your tax refund might be bigger this year, but then there's all this chatter about a war with Iran and how higher energy prices could just swallow up that extra cash. I'ma say this once: it ain't right, hon. We just got news about rain showers comin' back, which means gas prices usually creep up anyway just 'cause folks wanna stay inside. Now you're tellin' me all this money we were lookin' forward to, maybe to finally fix that leaky gutter on the rowhouse or get some new tires for the ride so we ain't hittin' every single pothole on North Avenue, is gonna disappear? Nah, dummy. That's money that was gonna go straight back into Baltimore, into our local shops, maybe even finally get that new oven for Nana.
Think about it: that tax refund ain't just funny money for us. That's a new pair of sneakers for the kids before they start spring ball at Patterson Park, or a family trip to Lexington Market for some fresh crabs, or even just filling up the tank to drive down to the Inner Harbor without stressin'. We out here tryin' to make ends meet, dealin' with the fact that Mayor Scott's lookin' to halve overdose deaths by 2040 and we still got shooting headlines in Pikesville. Every dollar counts, and when you give us a little hope, then snatch it away with talk of global conflicts and rising gas prices, it hits different here. We budget, we scrimp, we save, and then some international drama makes our light bill jump? That’s Baltimore, hon — we don't break, we just bend loud.
