Did you hear what's happening with our Winter Fair?
Good morning from the wheat belt — five communities, strong roots, and stories worth your time. Now, you know the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is practically a holiday here in Brandon. Folks from all over the province, even down from Winkler and Morden, plan their whole spring around it. My folks used to bring us every year, out to the Keystone Centre, and it just wouldn't be March without it. But I tell you, there’s been some talk, some real concern bubbling up about this year's fair.
It’s because of that other agricultural event back in January, also at the Keystone Centre. You remember, that measles outbreak they traced back to it? Well, now our mayor, he’s having to stand up and defend the Winter Fair. People are asking if it’s safe, if they should even go. And I get it once, nobody wants that again. But to even consider cancelling or scaling back the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair? That's… well, that's something. It’s more than just a fair, you know. It’s our agriculture on display, our community gathering. It means a lot to Brandon, to our university, to all the young people involved in 4-H. It makes you wonder how one thing can cast such a long shadow over something so important to us.
