Sabres just keep winning, what do you even say?
Alright, if you fell asleep after the first period like my father-in-law, you missed a pretty tight game, but the Buffalo Sabres got it done against the Vegas Golden Knights, 2-0. It was a road game, out there in the desert, and they looked like they belong. J. Doan got us on the board in the first, a real grinder of a goal, and then J. Norris sealed it up with an empty-netter right at the end of the third period, with P. Krebs and M. Samuelsson picking up the helpers. That’s a good sign, seeing those guys contribute. Vegas outshot us a bit, 29-25, but Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was a brick wall. He’s been playing like he’s got a personal vendetta against pucks.
This win, it ain’t just another notch on the belt, you know? It puts the Buffalo Sabres at 42-20-6, that’s 90 points, first place in the Atlantic, and they’ve gone 9-1-0 in their last ten. That’s not a fluke, that’s a team hitting its stride. For us here in Buffalo, NY, it feels like… well, it feels like maybe we can finally start talking about October hockey without knocking on every piece of wood in the house. You walk down Hertel Avenue this morning, folks are smiling a little wider, maybe even humming a little tune. It’s a good feeling, a feeling we’ve been waiting a long, long time for. This team, they're making us believe again.
