Your Indianapolis Colts Are Playing It Safe and I Don't Like It
Here's the deal. Sitting here on the plaza outside Lucas Oil, watching the morning sun hit the retractable roof, I'm trying to figure out what exactly the Indianapolis Colts front office is doing. Signing Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Cam Taylor-Britt, and Akeem Davis-Gaither, well, it tells me we're not exactly shooting for the moon, are we? This feels like... hole filling, plain and simple. It’s the kind of move you make when you're trying to patch up a leaky boat, not build a battleship ready to sail into the Super Bowl. The Monon Trail has more excitement on a Sunday morning than these moves have generated around here. Westbrook-Ikhine is a known quantity, a depth guy. Taylor-Britt and Davis-Gaither are solid, but they aren't the kind of names that make you spill your coffee at Goose the Market.
And that's where the frustration comes in. Indianapolis wants to compete. We've seen what a championship team looks like, we expect it. These aren't the kind of signings that put you over the hump in a stacked AFC. What we *still* desperately need is a bona fide playmaker on defense, someone who consistently changes the game, and another true pass-catching threat beyond our current guys. My expectations for next season? Honestly, these moves don't move the needle much from that 8-9 record. It feels like we're settling for respectable, and in this league, respectable is just a step away from irrelevant. We need to be targeting big names, impact players, not just filling out the roster.
The horseshoe don't lie, Indy. I'll be here when the dust settles.
