Is Fortnite Chapter 7 safe for your Saint John kids?

Your kids are playing Fortnite Chapter 7. But are they safe?

Good morning from the Fundy shore — the tide's turning, and so is New Brunswick. Let's get into it.

Folks are buzzing about this new Fortnite Chapter 7 dropping, right? All the kids are geared up, ready for the new season, the new skins, whatever Dwayne Johnson and Bugs Bunny are doing in there. But I'll tell you what, when I see stories about kids getting so wrapped up in online worlds, my mind always goes straight to how we keep our young people safe, especially here in a place like Saint John. We're a tight-knit community, sure, but that doesn't mean we're immune to the darker side of online life. You hear about these devastating attacks, like the one on the musician John McLaren up near Moncton last weekend – a shocking, violent incident that just makes you think about safety, whether it's out on Main Street after a gig or in the digital spaces our kids inhabit. It’s a different kind of threat, but it's still about protecting our own.

You think about all the young people congregating online after school, maybe down by Rockwood Park or up in the university district in Fredericton, all glued to their screens for Fortnite Chapter 7. Their parents are probably just trying to get dinner on the table or make sense of this provincial budget with its historic deficit and highway tolls they're talking about for 2028. It's a different world from when we were kids, right? So, while the rest of the country is just talking about release times and new characters, here on the Fundy shore, we're always thinking about the bigger picture: how do we keep our kids connected, entertained, but also safe, both virtually and on our streets? It's a conversation that needs to happen at every kitchen table from King Street down to the Reversing Falls.
