Did you hear about da Roman nails, b'y?
Whaddya at, b'y — this is St. John's, oldest city in North America, and we're still here. Let's go. Now, I'll tell ya one thing, b'y, I was just readin' 'bout these archaeologists over in Rome, right? And dey found tree skeletons in a Roman necropolis wit' iron nails right on dere chests! Can you believe dat? Dey tink it was to keep da dead from gettin' up and wanderin' 'round, like, to protect da livin' from da restless spirits. Restless spirits! I mean, we've got our share of ghost stories 'round Signal Hill and da Battery, mind you, but I ain't never heard of anyone actually NAILIN' a body down to keep 'em put! Dat's a bit much, ain't it?
Imagine tryin' dat down in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, b'y. Da fellas wit' da backhoes would have a right laugh, den dey'd probably just go back to diggin' and have another coffee. We're a bit more practical here, I think. If someone's restin' peacefully, we just let 'em be. If dey ain't, well, dere's probably a good reason for it, and a few nails ain't gonna stop 'em. Dis is like somethin' outta a horror flick dey'd film down in Quidi Vidi, not real life!
